Kensington, MD , Kitchen/Additions & Renovation - $120,000
As President of Merrick, David had plenty of inspiration for his kitchen addition but as a remodeler. His own home was a myriad of unfinished projects and too many different styles. After over a decade, his wife finally convinced him to bring in his company and build their dream kitchen. Our crew took over the back of their home, knocking down a wall and expanding into an old sunroom. The result is a spacious kitchen with two breakfast bars. There is also a beautiful new dining area, a large walk-in pantry, and a much-needed mudroom!
The kitchen addition features two-toned Merillat Masterpiece cabinets. A luxurious emerald pearl granite top caps the cabinets along the perimeter and contrast perfectly with the black painted cabinets and butcher block top on the peninsula. Details such as the fire-clay farm sink and Executive range from Capital, are splurges that help to elevate the entire space and its design.
Storage is always a focus at Merrick since we know people need to live in the spaces we design. At his own home, David took that to the next level. He included a large walk-in pantry to accommodate his frequent Costco visits, as well as everyday shopping. The kitchen also focuses on storage with 42″ high wall cabinets, giving you an additional shelf compared to traditional wall cabinets. It also hides a secret pull out for even more storage in the wall to the living room. In the mudroom, custom-built “cubbies” give you a place to store hats, scarves, and gloves, kick off your boots and hang up your jacket. The slate flooring is perfect for muddy boots and gives traction on snowy days.
Just off the mudroom, the updated powder room features a marble floor and vanity top, warm wood vanity, and a complimentary mirror.
