Despite the yellow walls, Diana’s kitchen was dark and lacked functional space. Her wish list included a lighter, brighter kitchen that still had warmth, with plenty of storage and work space for her whole family. With the Merrick Design Build Advantage we developed a design that stretched the kitchen addition while utilizing an existing porch allowing us to give Diana the large kitchen she was looking for. Our team of designers and builders were able to coordinate this complex home addition seamlessly while keeping style, function and budget in mind.

Diana wanted a family friendly gathering space with a traditional feel for her new kitchen.  With an open L shape to her kitchen addition, featuring white painted cabinets, we added dark contrasting counter tops to the perimeter and a rich warm wood top to the island. Design features like the Kohler Deck Mount Faucet, a farm sink and Carrara marble backsplash tiles, create the traditional feel Diana was looking for.  Rustic elements like the pendant lighting and panels of chicken wire in the cabinet doors of the island add a touch of eclectic to the space that appealed to her husband.  An under-cabinet shelf was designed to house a special glassware collection.

To make the kitchen child friendly, Diana had us round the edges of the island top and extend it just enough so that her girls could join her while she worked.  Other features include 42″ tall cabinets for greater storage and a microwave built into the island to save counter space. All features that offer greater function and practicality.
