Kensington, MD , Kitchen Remodel - $80,000
Today’s busy families need more than the standard kitchen and dining room offer. It just doesn’t work for most families anymore. Robert’s spacious Kensington home had a functional kitchen. Still, it kept him away from the family when preparing meals. In addition, the dining room was not frequently used. Robert needed a family kitchen that would bring them together more often.
Merrick’s design for this family kitchen started with great bones, including a large decorative window, tray ceilings in both rooms, and hardwood flooring in the dining room. We took down the wall that separated the two spaces to create one open space. Rich Sedona Merillat cabinets flow from end to end, adding warmth to this spacious kitchen. Stainless steel appliances nestle into the cabinetry, for a contemporary contrast. Glass tiles gleam atop the Volga Blue granite countertops, enhanced by LED undercabinet lighting.
With two large pantry cabinets, storage is abundant, and in one corner of the room, a beverage center makes for easy beverage access. To bring the family together, an oversized island of Volga Blue granite, with seating for eight, fills the center of the room. For added elegance, the separate tray ceilings became one, and we added a decorative crown. The new hardwood floors coordinate with the floors in the dining room for a cohesive look.
The final look is a warm and inviting family kitchen. The family is now together, whether preparing and sharing a meal, doing homework or catching up on their favorite TV show.
