NW Washington, DC, Kitchen/Additions & Renovation/Basement - $200,000
Stacey had a tiny kitchen tucked into the back corner of her home that just wasn’t working for her family. She needed someone who could help her redesign the space with practicality in mind. With Merrick, she was able to take advantage of the design-build process to create a large, colorful kitchen. Merrick delivered great design and the remodel was smooth with minimal interruption to her and her family.
At first glance, you see a new colorful kitchen that mirrors Stacey’s cheerful personality. Merrick designed this open and inviting space by pushing out the walls, enlarging the room and creating lots of eat-in space. With vaulted ceilings and three skylights, the room is bright and airy with plenty of light.
Like many families, Stacey needed lots of extra storage space. We started with 42″ tall wall cabinets for an extra shelf in each and added a wide floor to ceiling pantry cabinet. Under the large kitchen window we created a comfortable seating area using a bench with storage below. We incorporated a bookcase near the bench to hold Stacey’s cookbooks.
Style elements include the contrasting Silestone quartz countertops, glass subway tiles, and sleek stainless steel appliances.
While we were working on Stacey’s new colorful kitchen, she asked us to update a few things in her basement rec room and guest bath. For the rec room, we added a fun and colorful floor to brighten the room. In the guest bath, traditional pieces like the pedestal sink and the mosaic flooring became transitional with a bright chrome finish on the faucet and mirror. A fun fresh color on the walls finished the look.
