Chevy Chase, NW DC, Bathroom - $80,000
Sylvia and her husband, Richard, are long-time Merrick Design and Build customers. When they told us they wanted to renovate their original 1930 hall bath, we couldn’t wait to sink our teeth into the job. Our shared goal was to create an inviting bathroom that anyone would feel comfortable. It was also important to keep with the traditional feel of their home. We opened up space by removing the corner tub and replacing it with a large shower stall. The glass shower lets the natural light from the bathroom window into the shower. It creates the illusion that the bathroom is larger. The custom wood wainscoting and the use of marble throughout the bath creates the traditional feel that Sylvia wanted.
While renovating the hall bath, we were also asked to give a facelift to the master bath we installed for them in the 90s. The bathroom was in good shape but had outdated elements. The 12×12 floor tile, wall to wall mirror, and fussy drop-in sinks had better days. We stripped the old wallpaper, and the white bathroom was broken up with a gray marble floor, quartz counter, and a fresh coat of light gray paint.
