Chevy Chase, NW DC, Bathroom - $80,000
Sylvia and her husband, Richard, are long time Merrick Design and Build customers. So when they told us they were ready to renovate their original 1930 hall bath we were excited to finally sink our teeth into it. Our shared goal was to create an inviting bath that anyone would be comfortable in while still fitting the traditional feel of their home. We opened up the space by pulling out the corner tub enclosure and replacing it with a large shower stall. The glass shower surround lets the natural light from the bathroom window into the shower and creates the illusion that the bathroom is larger. The custom wood wainscoting, installed by our carpenter, Rodrigo Canete, and the use of marble throughout the bath create the traditional fee Sylvia was after.
While renovating the hall bath we were also asked to give a facelift to the Master Bath we installed for them back in the 90s. The bathroom was in good shape but had some outdated elements. The 12×12 floor tile, wall to wall mirror, and fussy drop in sinks had all seen better days. The wallpaper was striped and the white bathroom was broken up with a gray marble floor, quartz counter and a fresh coat of light gray paint.
