Surprisingly, Liz already liked her warm mid-century kitchen, especially loving how it opened up to the dining room. But despite liking it, she knew it could be better. The layout was not the most functional, especially with the fridge location being so far from everything else. And the cabinets were starting to feel less like a mid-century style statement and more like a relic from history.
Liz brought in Merrick to help take her kitchen from a place she liked to a place she loved! By moving the fridge and adding a large pantry cabinet, we were able to expand the opening to her front entry. To keep with the mid-century modern feel, we installed all new custom two-toned cabinets: uppers in a white Shaker style, and bases in a warm Sapele flat slab front.
We swapped out the cooktop/range combo for a professional-style range and vent hood. The neutral wall color lets the cabinets shine and brightens up the room. We also extended the style into the dining room, replacing the closet door with a frosted glass door to match the entry. New lighting and a refinished hardwood floor beautifully finished off the space in Liz’s Kensington home.
